Research Assistantships in Electromagnetics
The ECE Department and the MRC Institute is proud to report that one of its soon-to-be 2007 PhD graduates in the electromagnetics research program,
Mr. Ryan S. Adams, has recently accepted a tenure-track, Assistant Professor appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte (UNCC). UNCC is a peer institution with UI and according to UNCC’s web page,
UNCC “comprises seven professional colleges and currently offers 17 doctoral programs, 59 master’s degree programs and 85 leading to
bachelor’s degrees. More than 900 full-time faculty comprise the university’s academic departments and the 2006 fall enrollment exceeded
21,500 students.” After receiving two other academic job offers, Mr. Adams selected UNCC due to its strong track record in research and
teaching, and its corresponding potential for growth. Mr. Adams plans to continue his research in ferrite microwave devices and to teach
in the area of electromagnetics, antennas and high frequency devices. While working under the auspices of Prof. Jeffrey Young in the
Applied Electromagnetic Waves Laboratory for the past four years, Mr. Adams has published numerous papers in his research field, filed one patent
with the US Patent Office, received the Department’s Outstanding Graduate Student Award in 2006 and received the UI Alumni Award for Excellence in 2006.
